Kashi - The Oldest City

Kashi, also known as Varanasi, is an ancient city in India that is considered one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. It is a major destination for Hindus and is known as the spiritual capital of India. 
History:
Kashi is mentioned in ancient scriptures like the Rigveda and Jataka tales. 
It was a center of learning and civilization for over 3,000 years. 
It was one of 16 mahajanapadas in northern India in the 6th century BCE. 
It was home to the lords Shiva and Parvati. 
Significance:
Hindus believe that dying in Kashi leads to salvation and freedom from the cycle of rebirth. 
The Ganges river in Kashi is said to have the power to wash away sins. 
The city is considered a sacred place for Hindus to attain peace of mind and spiritual bliss.
